Overleaf LaTeX Engine
Automated LaTeX resume compilation and export-ready formatting for Overleaf academic and modern projects.

Overview
Overleaf is the premier cloud-based collaborative LaTeX editor used worldwide by engineers, researchers, and academics. LaTeX resumes are renowned in tech hiring for their clean typographical precision, zero formatting artifacts, and flawless parsing by corporate ATS scanners.
Applivo's Overleaf LaTeX Engine (app/services/overleaf_service.py) transforms your structured candidate profile into publication-quality LaTeX source code across seven verified styles, ready for immediate compilation or one-click import into Overleaf.
Configuration
The Overleaf LaTeX Engine is built into Applivo:
- Open Resumes → LaTeX Templates in your dashboard.
- Browse the 7 verified templates: ModernCV, Harshibar, IIIT, MTeck, Professional, Academic, and Default.
- Select a template style to preview its layout and typography.
- Click Export to Overleaf or Copy LaTeX Source.
- Paste the source directly into a new Overleaf project or click the direct Overleaf web compiler link.
How it works
The compilation engine operates via a dedicated Jinja2 templating architecture:
- Data Sanitization: Special characters that cause LaTeX compilation errors (&, %, $, #, _, {, }, ~, ^, \) are escaped automatically.
- Template Rendering: Candidate profile data (education, experience, publications, technical skills) is mapped into authentic .tex templates.
- PDF Preview: Renders instant SVG previews of each template style.
- Overleaf Export: Packages source files into a downloadable archive or encodes source for Overleaf's direct web-import endpoint.
Available features
- Seven production-grade LaTeX templates optimized for engineering and research roles.
- Automated escaping of special LaTeX characters and ligatures.
- Export-ready .tex file generation from candidate profile data.
- Direct copy and Overleaf project import links.
- Guaranteed single-column ATS parser compliance across all styles.
Permissions and data access
LaTeX source generation is fully internal to Applivo. No Overleaf account credentials or personal tokens are required.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Overleaf reports compilation error | Unescaped mathematical or Unicode symbol in a project description | Ensure project descriptions avoid non-standard emoji symbols. |
